Beautiful old place. Excellent dining room and service.

Our room was located immediately above the bar area below. Since there is no sound insulation in such an old structure, we heard every word spoken below us until late in the evening. I would be very careful in which room to stay if we were to return.

A magical palace! Great frescos, tile walls---felt like we were staying in a 1930's movie set. Everything from the old "lift" elevator, curved staircases and center lounges on each floor decorated with period furniture. The grounds are wonderful, English gardens and untamed forest with several walking paths. The dining room serves a very nice breakfast with both hot and cold options. The dinner menu is a bit pricey, but the food was very good.

The facility is a little dated and faded. The beds were basic, and could use more comfortable mattresses.

The palace is magnificent and so is the park next to it.

The tv was old and small and the double bed was a bit small

The place, the nature, the location is amazing. It is beautiful I have nothing really to say but to advise everyone to visit and to look by themselfs. I am definitely recomending to everyone.

The setting could not be more fantastic. Beautiful palace, garden, forest, and plenty of hiking trails with spectacular views... Very much a trip back in time.

The beds were a little firm to our liking, but that is pretty standard for hotels in Portugal. This is of course a matter of personal preference.

Everything was as we had expected it to be. The staff was very helpful, the food was good and the surroundings were magnificent. If you like going for walks, reading books and playing games, then do stay for a few days.

Perhaps soms vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Even though you can see the aging of the hotel - our stay was good. Especially the breakfast was very good. The wireless internet was down, but we were offered to use a fixed line in the office of the hotel.

You can alway discuss price against quality, but it is not that poor. If a hotel like this can not charge for their facilities - who can?

The beautiful palace and the grounds.

Bathroom sink leaked. It is a beautiful historic site that needs continuous upkeep given its age. The economic situation of the country seems to have impacted negatively on the upkeep of the site and the grounds. The grounds belong to the government and the hotel is private.

Beautiful castle in bussaco surrounded by a magical forest. Ideal stay if you love nature and walking in the forest, be sure to take appropriate shoes!

Was ok, interesting building, location was a bit isolated , we were restricted to an large set menu , same for lunch and dinner, which was too dear.Service at the desk started off very well, untill the new shift arrived and service dropped, bar service was none and almost rude. In all, a very disappointing stay, no wifi and no intention of fixing it they said.

It's a real authentic castle by a wonderful architect - Manini, who did the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, and they're both stunning. Breakfast is worth mentioning: it includes scrabbled eggs, fried bacon and sausages, as well as champagne (yes!), fresh fruit and a great selection of cheeses and meat cold cuts. Our room (a usual double) was nicely located on the second floor, with a great view on the beauriful lawn in front of the castle and a huge balcony. The room itself is pretty small, olf-fashioned. Bathroom is pretty big, though. It's cool to feel that this used to be a room of some court lady that you're now staying at. Very quiet (thanks to huge walls). Don't expect full 5 stars: they're not. It's fair 4 stars (but with bath robes :-))) Surrounding park and a forest offer a hiking challenge, for those interested in the older history, there are ruins of a carmelite monastery dating back to 17th century, right there uphill, within a walking distance (took us on a 3 hour journey). Overall, a very romantic and history-inspired place.

There's no wifi (at least during our stay there was none anywhere). They said at the lobby that their both routers were not working. Hope they fix it. There was only one cable-connected spot in the lobby availavle, there was someone using it already, so we didn't get a chance. Also, there were no table and chairs on our part of the balcony, and I don't really see why: there they were an all other balconies. An old tv set. And no air conditioning in the room. But they gave us a nice welcoming surprise, and generally it's a great place to stay, far better than any ordinary - even be it a full 5 star - accomodation. So all the cons are not that important, really.

The palace is really impressive to take a closer look at, the surroundings are really quiet, I loved walking in the woods (you need a map-ask at reception).

The palace is not deserving to be a 5* at all...some impressions: room very badly isolated, wind came through windows. Television (30x40cm) not working(no signal), no radio, WLAN to weak to receive signal in room. Towels smelt like kitchen, bathrobe too small and without a belt in it, light in bathroom was defect. Room only medium-clean... Breakfast in the morning:bread made a non-fresh impression. Food in the evening: don't go there! 40Euro is way too much for a mostly microwave-reheated meal, allthough you get enough food. Wine unaffordable.
